Join us from December 8-13 for Holiday in the Mountains Week at the Folk School! Throughout the week, experience a traditional ensemble of events and historical presentations in the Keith House Community Room. Events are offered at no cost and are open to the public!
Beginning on Monday, December 8 from 4:45-5:45 p.m., Annie Fain Barralon will present on traditions, stories, and celebrations that make the winter season special at the Folk School. Also on Monday night, a Holiday Honky Tonk with the Alum Ridge Boys & Ashlee will feature jubilant classic country favorites and holiday tunes with concert seating and space for dancing.
Wednesday, December 10 at 4:45 p.m., join Harry Baughn, Harrison Keely, Virginia Mattox, and Janice Minette in Birth of the John C. Campbell Folk School- A One Act Narrative for Four Voices on the founding story of the Folk School, written and directed by Richard Montfort Cary. At 7 p.m., enjoy the special reading of A Christmas Carol. For nearly 20 years, Bob Grove brought this magical story to the community. The candle has been handed down to Harrison Keely. He will share the usual fair; a short history of English author Charles Dickens and a reading of the story. After the reading, scoot the chairs to the side for a performance by Brasstown Morris Dancers.
On Thursday December 11, from 5-6 p.m., sing-along holiday carols in Keith with Brasstown Ukulele Group. Then the party will move up the hill to the Crown Restaurant for an open community jam session at 7 p.m.
Friday, December 12, the Craft Social is scheduled from 7–9 p.m. Bring a project to work on at the Craft Corner or stop by to see instructor work, watch demos, learn, and socialize.
A donation of $5-15 per adult is suggested for some of the events, but all are welcome regardless of contribution. Any funds raised help with equitable pay for performers.
