ESSENTIAL DOCUMENTS FOR ELDER CLIENTS
Class 1 will focus on the documents you need in place to allow your trusted agents to assist you in the event of illness or incompetency and following death. We will discuss how to use Health Care Agents and Financial Powers of Attorney to avoid expensive court proceedings. What a Health Care Agent does. How to give directions for health care and end of life decisions. What is the Financial Power of Attorney, is there more than one type? Is there a form for that? What are special powers? Why do I need special powers?
ESTATE PLANNING -WILLS & TRUSTS
Class 2 will review how title documents and beneficiary designation fit in with your estate plan. The purpose of a Last Will and Testament. When is a Trust advisable, selecting a trustee and viewing your Trust as a personal rulebook.
EDUCATION
Eddy is a native of Young Harris, Georgia. He Graduated Towns County High School and Young Harris College.
1979 Bachelor of Business Administration from Emory University in Atlanta in Accounting and Finance. 1983 Graduate of Georgia State University College of Law
LICENSES AND ACHIEVEMENTS
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) in the State of Georgia since 1982 and still maintains his CPA license. He has worked in business management as a Vice President of Finance for an asphalt paving company and as a Controller for a real estate development company with interests in building construction, golf course and resort management.
Attorney licensed to practice law in three states – Georgia, North Carolina and Florida. He was admitted to the Georgia Bar in 1986 and to the North Carolina Bar in 2013. In that same year, Eddy passed the Florida Bar Exam to be admitted to practice law in Florida in an effort to better serve our second-home community.
Eddy is an active member of Elder Counsel and Wealth Counsel. He frequently teaches an Elder Law class as a service to Young Harris College Institute of Continuing Learning and other churches and area organizations.
FOCUS OF LAW PRACTICE
Eddy’s practice concentrates primarily in Elder Law, working in the areas of Wills, Trusts, Estate Planning and Estate and Trust Administration. Eddy also has experience in litigation concerning disputes involving estates and trusts.
FAMILY LIFE
He married Georgia Corn in 1981. Georgia is employed as the office manager of Eddy’s law firm. Together they have two children and four grandchildren. Eddy is an avid hiker, backpacker and enjoys trout fishing in the area.
