Forest to Faucets Watershed Walk & Talk
Cold crystal clear water rises up from the ground and flows down the mountain sides of Brasstown Bald and to the rivers Hiwassee, Tennessee, Ohio, Mississippi, and finally into the Gulf of Mexico. This is the water you drink, swim and bathe in, and eventually ocean creatures will live in. How does your daily life affect the quality our water?
Come find out at the Hiwassee River Watershed Coalition’s walk & talk program led by executive director and passionate conservationist, Callie Moore.
Starting at the Visitors Center observation deck, you will get a panoramic 360 degree watershed focused overview of the mountains surrounding you. This focus will narrow as you head down the Summit Trail where you will see firsthand the importance of our forested mountain sides. The walk will culminate at the Brasstown Bald spring head near the parking lot.
The Hiwassee River Watershed Coalition works collaboratively with landowners, governments, schools, and businesses to understand and address threats to our water resources. They maintain extensive water quality sampling of our local waterways and conduct educational programs for all ages.
