Business Writers Conference
The first annual Business Writers Conference in the USA will be held July 27-29, 2016, at Brasstown Valley Resort and Spa in Young Harris, Georgia.
Aspiring authors from all over the United States will be attending this unique conference. Best-selling authors and publishing industry leaders will show attendees the path to success in writing a book. The Business Writers Conference is an immersion experience that allows access to the experts, resources, and inspiration to learn how the book-writing process works, how the publishing business functions, and how to develop books and articles efficiently.
Writing a book is an elusive goal for many business professionals as they seek an outlet to offer guidance and expertise to a very broad audience. The speakers of the 2016 Business Writers Conference cover a wide range of topics that include all ends of the publishing industry, from choosing your topic, getting your book onto paper, and establishing a plan for your book, to finding the right publisher, securing a contract, marketing your book and more. Collectively the speakers have written over 300 books.
A total of 14 book authors and publishing experts will deliver keynotes, teach breakout sessions, host panel discussions, and work with you individually during pre- and post-conference workshops. You'll have access to best-selling authors and accomplished acquisition editors, publishers, publicists, and writing coaches who all have either written books about business or helped others turn their business expertise into a book.
The opening keynote speaker for the conference is Paul Smith, one of the world’s leading experts on organizational storytelling. He’s a keynote speaker, storytelling coach, and best-selling author of the book Lead with a Story: A Guide to Crafting Business Narratives that Captivate, Convince, and Inspire. Paul will explain why storytelling is critical for success as a leader and as a business book author. He’ll also share his personal journey from corporate executive to full-time author and speaker, including: an aborted first book attempt, writing a book while holding down a full time job, turning that book into a successful business, the gut-wrenching decision to give up the corporate paycheck, and the letter from his 80-year-old father that gave him the courage to finally pursue his dream.
As another featured keynote presentation, business consultant Andrew W. Savitz and writer/editor Karl Weber describe their long-term collaboration, which has led to the publication of two popular books on sustainable business, including two editions of their best-seller The Triple Bottom Line. In dialogue format, Savitz and Weber explain how they originally met and decided to join forces as an author team, as well as the unique contributions each member of the team brought to their work: on Savitz’s part, deep subject-matter knowledge, consulting experience, and industry contacts; on Weber’s part, writing and editorial talent along with understanding of publishing industry practices.
“According to the New York Times, 81% of professionals want to write a book. That’s why we have lined up over a dozen of the most accomplished experts in business book publishing to show you the practices, tools, and connections you need to have success publishing books about your expertise and experience.” explains Jack Phillips, Chairman, Business Writers Exchange.
“The journey you take as an author should be successful. With that in mind, we put much energy into selecting the content of this conference, purposely moving it out of the mainstream to a beautiful venue so that we can focus on the craft of writing a book. We would love for you to join us.” adds Patti Phillips, CEO of Business Writers Exchange.
Pre- and post-conference workshops will provide you with insight and experience that you can't find on any blog or forum. The facilitators provide you with one-on-one advice and hand-outs to set you on the path to publishing success.
Jack and Patti Phillips, the organizers of the conference, each have a writing experience that is uncommon in a professional field. Collectively, they have written or edited 120 books with major publishers around the world, including McGraw-Hill, John Wiley, AMACOM, Elsevier, Routledge, ATD Press, SHRM Press, Nicholas Brealey, and Berrett-Koehler, among others. These books have been translated into 38 languages, and several have won national and international awards. Next year, they will reach the milestone of writing or editing 50 books with the same publisher. Jack and Patti have expertise in serving as series editors for four publishers of professional business books (Elsevier, John Wiley, ASTD Press, and SHRM Press). They have self-published three books and developed an e-book with CrossKnowledge, a Wiley brand.
