Balfolk Dance with Dance Leader Annie Fain
Annie Fain Barralon teaches simple partner and group dances to traditional European music played by the Brasstown Balfok Band. All are welcome with or without a partner.
Annie Fain Barralon was raised immersed in the crafts, music, and dance community of Brasstown and is a former Folk School Music & Dance Coordinator. She teaches a variety of subjects including book arts, banjo, and several styles of dance: Appalachian clogging, English waltz clog, Northwest Morris, and Balfolk. Her love of balfolk began when traveling in France 14 years ago and soon after marrying into a French family of musicians and dancers. Her balfolk knowledge comes directly from her French family and friends, she thoroughly enjoys teaching and she's sure that you'll fall in love with Balfollk too!
Brasstown Balfolk Band features Géraud Barralon on fiddle and voice and Charlie Beck on banjo and guitar. Géraud Barralon comes from Ardèche in the Rhône-Alpes region of France. Growing up in the "balfolk" culture, Géraud began dedicating his musical endeavors to the art of European social dancing in 2010 and is one of the main organizers and performers for the Le Bal Itinerant, an annual traveling dance tour in central France. Charlie Beck took his banjo and guitar and, at a young age, left his Indiana home for Seattle. In 2003, he became a founding member of The Tallboys String Band. Soon after, he met his future wife, Charmaine Slaven, and they formed the duo Squirrel Butter. Charlie plays banjo in clawhammer and finger picking styles with great skill, creativity, and rhythm. He has performed and/or taught at: A Prairie Home Companion, Bumbershoot, Pickathon, Nimble Fingers, Moose Jaw Festival, and Boston's Christmas Revels.
