Michael Clark began his Horticultural career in the late 1960's working during his summer holidays at England's largest greenhouse facility, Thomas Rochfords and Sons, Ltd. He built his first greenhouse when he was 14, and first visited greenhouses across the USA in 1974. Michael began his own business in 2000. He and Sally met and the two were married in 2002 and immediately moved the nursery, now known as English Country Gardens, to their current location on Village Road just off Hwy 288 (Sunnyside) in Hiawassee.
English Country Gardens is one of only 6 authorized sellers of the world famous David Austin Roses in the state of Georgia.
Michael is most proud of marrying his wife, Sally. "Behind every man is a woman who loves and encourages him." - Michael
English Country Gardens originally joined the Lake Chatuge Chamber because they wanted to belong to and be a part of this community and thought it would be a great way to encourage the quality of growth they wanted to see in the area. They have remained for the same reasons and are grateful for the encouragement and customer referrals the Chamber has provided.
The gardens close every year during the winter months but will reopening soon with Spring flowers.
